This principle is why there is a United States today. If gay people pay taxes they have the right to be represented and treated equally. 1. Comparing homosexuals to murderers is grossly ignorant. Saying that gay people should have equal rights because they pay equal taxes has nothing to do with criminal punishment. A gay murderer with equal rights would still go to jail.
2. This country is home to more religions than you can count. Saying that the country as a whole cant accept something due to religious subjectivity is retarded. Also, what exactly are the religious and moral beliefs you are referring to? I would assume you mean christian ones, since christians make up the majority of the gay rights opposition, however this wouldn't make much sense considering that most of the founding fathers were deists who vehemently opposed christian beliefs. They also took care to ensure that the original laws of this country were not influenced by religion.
3. Our country is not nearly socialist. Try looking words up before you use them. Not to mention that we did not originally rebel against socialism, but rather tyranny, as stated by the person above you. Had the colonists been under a socialist government, they would have had rights and treatment equal to that of english citizens. In fact, it was the lack of this that primarily caused the rebellion.

Umm i believe there is two parts to marriage the religious side and the legal side. When it was decided that inter-racial marriage was legal, the Christians moaned about how it would destroy the institution of marriage. Now the Christians want to say the same thing about gay marriage.

Each state already has laws detailing the ages at which people can marry. At least in this argument -- about gay marriage -- no one is saying that those laws be changed. No one is arguing that people should be allowed to marry animals, no one is arguing that adults should be able to marry children other than what is already legal.
It does not logically follow that allowing gay marriage between consenting adults would have any of the affects you state.
There is no valid reason that gay marriage should be illegal in the United States, and it seems to me the only reason it stays illegal is because Christians are scared of what might happen if it were legal. What that might be, I don't know, but I can see no other reason for vehemence against it by them.

The only thing that really stops gays from marrying regrettably is the fact that a lot of the lawmakers in various states refuse to recognize homosexual couples as being able to enter into Civil Marriage.
This has a lot to do with the Defense of Marriage Act which in my opinion is one of the most ignorant pieces of legislature to ever come out of the Legislative Body of the government. That is the precedent by which the US defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. BUT and this is a big but here (Kinda in the vein of a Brazilian girl but I digress) it does not OUTLAW same sex marriage it merely says that no state HAS to recognize it in the same light as they view traditional marriage. The section which did that was declared unconstitutional and is currently going through appeals and the rest of the procedures to see if it gets taken out of the law entirely or reinstated.

In the state's eyes they are not able to act in their own best interests at that point and therefore it is a crime for one to have sex with them.
Bestiality on the other hand. ACTUALLY in a few states this one is completely legal. So long as you're not abusing the animal to do it there are 18 states that do not have laws specifically prohibiting sex with animals.
Furthermore in no way is homosexual sex as in the act wrong either. The only sets of laws that were in place outlawing it were ruled unconstitutional in 2003 in Lawrence v. Texas. I think gays should be treated equally, and should have rights; they're not weeble-wobbles. (I use weeble-wobbles as an example because weeble-wobbles are awesome, but sadly have no rights.) My only problem with gay marriage is that "marriage" isn't something our country created or any other country for that matter. And I know me even bringing up the Bible will probably automatically turn most against me, because they'll suddenly assume I'm shoving my beliefs down your throat. Let's just discuss this. When gay men and women start marrying each other, it does not mean there will be increase of the gay population, that makes no sense whatsoever.
There is no "gay gene." You cannot pass down homosexuality. In his book about psychology, Peter Gray discusses that there is a random unstoppable happening in the womb unknown to scientists that can affect sexual orientation. It's not a choice, and it's not a gene. It's just what it is.

2. This country is home to more religions than you can count. Saying that the country as a whole cant accept something due to religious subjectivity is retarded. Also, what exactly are the religious and moral beliefs you are referring to? I would assume you mean christian ones, since christians make up the majority of the gay rights opposition, however this wouldn't make much sense considering that most of the founding fathers were deists who vehemently opposed christian beliefs. They also took care to ensure that the original laws of this country were not influenced by religion.
3. Our country is not nearly socialist. Try looking words up before you use them. Not to mention that we did not originally rebel against socialism, but rather tyranny, as stated by the person above you. Had the colonists been under a socialist government, they would have had rights and treatment equal to that of english citizens. In fact, it was the lack of this that primarily caused the rebellion.

Umm i believe there is two parts to marriage the religious side and the legal side. Tax right offs and certain rights pertaining to spouses, divorce, etc. now I'm no expert but couldn't gay people hold the religious ceremony regardless of the state of legality? I'm not particularily religious I think someones religious beliefs should be personal. so everyone who uses the religious argument why there shouldn't be gay marriage you are not pertinent to this argument anymore. I don't care about your religious views as long as it dose not effect others. Live your life leave others alone. so can anyone tell me a good logical reason why there shouldn't be gay marriage? I have absolutely no problem with getting the same marriage benefits, as any married couple, i completely agree with that. The only thing i have a problem with is the label of "marriage" only because I am a catholic and to me marriage is a sacred act between a man and a woman, so would you guys have any problem with just calling it something else? @Kaylamonea-Thats a very good idea, as some branches of the Church are not comfortable marrying two men or women, and one of the biggest problems with denying gay marriage is denying the economic status. If civil unions had the same benefits marriages do, I think we would have a better world.

There are two groups of people commenting on this post: those against gay marriage and those for it.
Everyone against gay rights has made their point: "fuck gay rights!" I'm pretty sure I haven't seen one comment that has made any more sense than this, and i'm positive that i haven't seen any where the author hasn't been swearing nonsensically.

The amount ignorance in this thread is absolutely horrific. I'm a twenty-one year old straight female, and both of my parents are slightly more conservative than I ever thought they were. However, they don't shun me or call me an idiot for believing in gay marriage; the fact that people are using "you're stupid" as a basis for argument is just sad. I personally believe that EVERYONE has a right to marry and be happy, and that it should have nothing to do with gender or sexual orientation. If you're going to be against gay marriage, you should blame straight people for having gay children. Or if you're going to use the Bible as your excuse, keep in mind that it states against tattoos, which I'm sure many of you have. How about the thought that if a woman isn't a virgin before marriage, she should be stoned to death? How many of your girlfriends/fiancees/wives are/were virgins? People just want any excuse to tear down someone who is not like them, yet they fail to apply things like this to their own lives. If you had a child who was gay, would you shun them from your life? I saw a comment that stated "if my kid was gay, i'd beat them". That's disgusting, and I truly hope that you never become a parent, because not only will you be harming your child, but preventing their happiness as well. It's truly terrible that people are so unaccepting. Why do you care what other people do? Does it affect the way you live at all? Absolutely not. The world will not end, societies will not fail, and your life will not be any different if gays were to marry.

The only thing that they are not allowed to do is get married(in most states). Legalizing homosexual marriage would lead not only to moral controversies but could also establish grounds upon which homosexuals could force a church that might not be pro-homosexual to use its premises to get married. In regard to tattoos, I believe the verse you are referencing, Leviticus 19:28, actually refers to the nearby cultural religious practice of the countries surrounding ancient Israel of tattooing, rather than any and every type of marking one's flesh. When it was decided that inter-racial marriage was legal, the Christians moaned about how it would destroy the institution of marriage. Now the Christians want to say the same thing about gay marriage.
It wasn't true then, it isn't true now.
Each state already has laws detailing the ages at which people can marry. At least in this argument -- about gay marriage -- no one is saying that those laws be changed. No one is arguing that people should be allowed to marry animals, no one is arguing that adults should be able to marry children other than what is already legal.
It does not logically follow that allowing gay marriage between consenting adults would have any of the affects you state.
There is no valid reason that gay marriage should be illegal in the United States, and it seems to me the only reason it stays illegal is because Christians are scared of what might happen if it were legal. What that might be, I don't know, but I can see no other reason for vehemence against it by them.

Logically thinking (I know that's a stretch for almost all of the people that are against Gay Marriage)You personally have no right to keep gays from marrying. They are people of this country and are therefore entitled to pursue their own happiness. So if two men or two women getting married allows them to be happy because they can be recognized in the same light as their heterosexual peers that cannot be infringed upon.
The only thing that really stops gays from marrying regrettably is the fact that a lot of the lawmakers in various states refuse to recognize homosexual couples as being able to enter into Civil Marriage.
This has a lot to do with the Defense of Marriage Act which in my opinion is one of the most ignorant pieces of legislature to ever come out of the Legislative Body of the government. That is the precedent by which the US defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. BUT and this is a big but here (Kinda in the vein of a Brazilian girl but I digress) it does not OUTLAW same sex marriage it merely says that no state HAS to recognize it in the same light as they view traditional marriage. The section which did that was declared unconstitutional and is currently going through appeals and the rest of the procedures to see if it gets taken out of the law entirely or reinstated.

Which is saying something because I've gotten into plenty of religious debates and they can get pretty ignorant. Pedophilia is illegal because one or more of the parties is not capable of making a decision about sex. In the state's eyes they are not able to act in their own best interests at that point and therefore it is a crime for one to have sex with them.
Bestiality on the other hand. ACTUALLY in a few states this one is completely legal. So long as you're not abusing the animal to do it there are 18 states that do not have laws specifically prohibiting sex with animals.
Furthermore in no way is homosexual sex as in the act wrong either. The only sets of laws that were in place outlawing it were ruled unconstitutional in 2003 in Lawrence v. Texas. Basically so long as all parties involved are consenting adults above the age of majority you can go and do whatever you want in your own bedroom sexually, sorry for bursting your bubble.

I think gays should be treated equally, and should have rights; they're not weeble-wobbles. (I use weeble-wobbles as an example because weeble-wobbles are awesome, but sadly have no rights.) My only problem with gay marriage is that "marriage" isn't something our country created or any other country for that matter. And I know me even bringing up the Bible will probably automatically turn most against me, because they'll suddenly assume I'm shoving my beliefs down your throat. Which I'm not, just giving my opinion, even though I realize it's pointless considering it's going on a website about funny protest signs, but here it goes. All I'm saying is, I don't think gay marriage should be legal, not that I don't think gays have a right to be legally bound to someone else, but because "marriage" was instituted as a godly tradition. And the fact that God tends to look down on same-sex relations, it doesn't really make all that much sense for two gay people to married, because it is just hypocritical in every sense of the word. Now, say like someone, anyone but an "ordained priest" did the ceremony, like Neil Patrick Harris or something, and it was still legally binding. I would be more than okay with that. In fact, I'd probably ask to be there because NPH is one of the coolest guys in the world.
So my point is, I think there should be some sort of compromise. I think gays have earned the right as human beings and not toaster ovens, to be legally joined together with someone else, but I think the way of going about that, at least symbolically, should be traditionally different.

Let's just discuss this. When gay men and women start marrying each other, it does not mean there will be increase of the gay population, that makes no sense whatsoever.

Secondly, I am completely for gay rights...or rather the natural rights of all human beings. The government, created by deists (the founding fathers opposed specific sects of religion) is based upon a secular nature. In turn, the laws of the country should be grounded upon a continually changing contemporary standard of values rather than a religious set of morals. Since there are so many varying religions in our country, why should we hold all of our citizens to a religious based bias against homosexuality? Even if one disagrees with morally charged matters such as gay marriage, abortion rights, or even stem cell research we must remember that our personal opinions must fit with the majority agenda. Voices may be heard through minority rights and protest but they should not conflict with the overall good of the public and should fit standards applicable to the entire nation. also to the guy who compared gays to murderers...fuck off. to the person who said they'd kill their child if they were gay should also fuck off. man, y'all need to good edu ma cation.
